What is solar energy?
Solar Energy an abundant source of renewable energy that comes from our sun. This energy can be captured and utilized with the technology of solar panels. Solar panels give us the ability to harness the suns energy to generate electricity. Solar energy is an infinite source of clean, renewable energy and will play an essential role in the way we power our future.
HOW DO SOLAR PANELS WORK?
Solar panels convert sunlight into electricity that can be used immediately, stored in a battery, or sent to the electric grid in exchange for energy credits. Solar panels convert the sun's energy through a process known as the photo-voltaic effect. When sunlight hits the semiconductor material (typically silicon) located within the panels, they knock loose electrons setting them in motion, therefore, generating an electric current. The current generated by the solar panels is called direct current (DC). Since our nation's electric grid, along with most of our household appliances operate on alternating current (AC), the energy produced by solar panels must be converted from direct current (DC) to alternating current (AC) through the means of solar inverters.
